Comments: During warm up, I felt a tailwind at the start of the course. I went out pretty hard and stayed near 25 for the first mile. After the first turn at about 1.5 miles, the wind was no longer friendly and it stayed that way or worse the rest of the way. I passed the guy who started 30 seconds ahead of me at the 2 mile marker. I thought, hey your smoking dude. My joy disappeared when I was caught at the 5 mile mark. The guy who started 30 seconds behind passed me then his pace dropped a little, which irritated me, but maybe the wind was a little harder. I kept him within 30 feet for the next 2 miles but he slowly pulled ahead. At mile 9 the next guy got me and he didn't drop any pace and passed the other guy at about mile 10. My legs were definitely working hard, I checked cadence once and I was at 96. I stayed aero except for 2 short sprints when I jumped up and pushed harder. I think I should have finished harder but other than that, I gave it my all. What would you do differently?: I need to practice time trialing. I ride a fair amount of miles and I do speedwork regularly, but I really didn't know what pace to race. I was hoping for 23 mph but didn't quite make it. ![]() Post race
Warm down: found marcy and rode a few miles easy spinning. Marcy came in 4th in the females. missed 3rd by 1 second. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not practicing at time trialing led to me not really knowing how to pace. Also wish we would have not got lost so we would have had more warm up time. A little off goal but fun. Event comments: More organized but smaller than my other bike race. The distance listed was wrong but most knew it, just not how much. Course could have been better marked. Excellent road surface and a nice course. Multi event bike race just aren't quite as fun as triathlons. We only did the TT and there was a road race 2 hours later. Most people leave and get something to eat to prepare for the next event. It was fun, but the atmosphere at triathlons with people cheering people in and the beer is better!!! Results are really slow and we didn't stay to get mine. I will update when I get them. Results are in, kind of disappointing but I knew that without the CAT 5 B I would slip. We got up way before the crack of dawn and headed to Baton Rouge. The directions on the website seemed kind of crappy and they were. Luckily I always cook in extra travel time and we got there at 7:10. I ate a zone bar on the way. Probably drank more coffee than necesary or smart. We got there and by the time we registered we didn't have long to warm up.
Rode about 3 miles on the course with a little sprinting.
