Comments:

Run was difficult. I have something going on with my left hip. The first 5 miles were smooth and easy, then I started to seize up as I was afraid of. Managed to carry ok speed into mile 9 but from that point, my hip was killing me and locking up. I still had good energy to bring but just couldn't move well. I managed to keep running and with the help of a lady I met on the course, dragged along the last few miles and managed to finish still runing.
Post race
Warm down:

Just stopped moving when I was done.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Thing going on with my hip.

Event comments:

Not enough water stations, that is a huge problem for me. Event was in a National Park and the deer flies are swarming and biting. It's the same problem every year i guess, so the organizers should note that for participants. Race started over a half hour late due to race day registrants being so high and only one line at the table to process them. Post race food was very skimpy. They give you a bottle of water ater you cross the finish line and that is it for fluid. That doesn't even come close to cutting it for me. I was so soaked, my feet were squishy the last 4 miles. Aparently a local resturaunt was a no show with post race food, how does that happen. The entire pack after standing around for an extra 1/2 hour then has to group walk a mile or so down the course to the start line. Time starts for everyone on the horn, but those at the back of the pack can't start until things clear out. The course allowed for one narrow lane of runners on an out and back run basically with park traffic being allowed to use the other lane. On much of the run back, there was no room to get out of the way of the cars because of the number of runners already filling the running lane still heading out. How did they possibly think an out and back race could possibly all fit onto one narrow lane. The race bag was disappointing! There was nothing in it. There was a shirt and not even a dri-fit as in the past 2 years. This was disappointing. The race number was plain with nothing but the number on it, no sponsor, not even the Running Factory that put on the race. There were 2 small fliers and that was it. What was the bag for? This race has some serious logistical problems. Being in a park, there are almost no spectators out on the course and the ones there are all at the finish line. I could go on, but I am not bashing the race organizers, just did not enjoy the race on so many levels.

A friend of mine did this as a tune up for the FP Marathon. He said the same things about the organization, lines of cars and narrow course.

Have a good off season.
