Total Time = 2h 57m 25s
Overall Rank = 687/1013
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 42/76
Pre-race routine:

Borrowed a pump to put air in my tires, all the air came out of the rear tire and I wasn't able to get the pump hooked up to the nossel. Got help from Jack and Adam's and the guy told me I have the wrong type of tube in my tire. He was able to fix it to get air in and I was good to go.
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 28m 16s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

got stuck behind two people early on; just past second turn my chip started comming loose - had to stop 3 times to adjust it; got congested mid way tru; swam into a lot of debris just after last turn; took most turns wide just to avoid others
What would you do differently?:

make sure chip is secure before race starts
Transition 1
  • 05m 50s
Comments:

transition area was full of wet sand
wet suit got stuck on chip strap; put helmet on then realized I forgot to put bike shirt on, took helmet off, had problems put bike shirt on (waste of time!); rinsed and dryed feet before putting on socks and shoes
left coffee shop covers on shoes and I was glad I did, took a few extra seconds at bike mount but atleast cleats were clean!
What would you do differently?:

not put on bike shirt
Bike
  • 1h 33m 53s
  • 31 miles
  • 19.81 mile/hr
Comments:

I forgot to count my laps so I biked 5 laps instead of 4. Only got slowed down at the last haipin turn.

Time with 4 laps 1:14ish.
What would you do differently?:

COUNT MY LAPS!!!
Transition 2
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

got stuck behind people walking their bikes back in; had a problem getting my bike back on the rack guess I need to rack by handle bars not seat; legs were a little shakey right off of bike
ate 1 hammer gel and almost 1 bottle of endurox
What would you do differently?:

Rack bike by handle bars
Run
  • 46m 40s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

ran the first lap fast, I think I slowed down a bit on the second lap. felt good on run; but found out course was 400m short...bummer took 1 hammer gel 1 mile into run
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

some stretching (left hamstring was tight)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

5 laps on bike; slow T1; chip strap during the swim

Event comments:

place 42 in age group out of 76 but with 4 bike laps I would have placed 14!
would have placed 374 overall instead of 687

Great job and Congratulations on completing a triathlon.  Sounds like you made a lot of typical mistakes.   The first few races should be learning experiences.

Way to hang in there and keep a positive attitude.
