I have lived here a year as of next week.   Thank you to all of those who listen to how dreadful I find it, and your encouragement to suck it up.  I am finally meeting people and doing some things, perhaps spurred by my husband taking an extended work trip and I have to find something to do other than work.  At least he left me with a new bike (He has a contract in Guyana, which will afford him the chance to go "home" to Suriname to visit for the first time since I imported him.)

Anyway, the above link is to an ADVENTURE Race here in Winnemucca!!!!   I cannot tell you how I am estatic that something "normal" will happen here.   Last year all summer long it was car show after drag race after mule race.  I felt as though I participated in the Drag Races as the course was a block over and all the cars lined up around the block that my lab sits on.  I decided cars should be seen and not heard.

The Nevada Tourism Bureau has contracted the guy who puts on the Exterra races to show how outdoorsy Nevada is.  My tri at St George is the following weekend, so I don't know what portion I will do.  If anyone out there is going to come to town and participate, let me know!  And when you see a clip of this race on TV, think about us here in Podunk.

The phrase "A Day at the Races" gets a whole new meaning with this one-of-a- kind, human-powered series of races. It all takes place the weekend of Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7 in Winnemucca where there's a playground for all types of adventurers. Mountain bikers will find gnarly trails, runners will find uphill paths, and kayakers will find unpredictable waters. All will revel in the scenery and be thrilled by the spirit of fun competition. The male and female with the fastest combined times takes home the Nevada Passage Cup! Enter one, two or all three races from as little as $15, to $45 for all three. Everyone is welcome ... from hard-core competitors to weekend warriors looking for new adventures.
