Swim
Comments: went nice and easy, knew I was going slow but wanted to experience my first oly swim, left shoulder ached half way, each stroke was mildly painful What would you do differently?: maybe start in the middle of the pack, purposely started near the back of the wave. Transition 1
Comments: had a sucky transition but figured I would. 1st race with suit, usually take it off leisurely. Had trouble with bike shirt, wet skin and food packed in pockets. At this point everyone was gone anyway so no holding anyone up What would you do differently?: not swim with suit, not pre-pack shirt with food, Bike
Comments: concentrated on keeping cadence up to about 95, didn't pay attention to speed. Worked on food every hour, gels now and 20 oz of fluid. Waved and said good morning to all the volunteers and chatted up a few other cyclists. This helped greatly because the volunteers remembered me on the hot and long run. Overall had a great experience enjoying the scenery. What would you do differently?: maybe kick it a bit more, had a few problems with the rear derailer chattering and not shifting right, gotta get this fixed Transition 2
Comments: good easy transition, knew I wasn't going to win at this point, hahah!! Had some ab cramps so hit the head before the run. What would you do differently?: all is good Run
Comments: hit a nice easy jog pace that I could hold all day. Hit the water stops. Had some ab cramps which eased a bit when running, minor side stitch near the end. Some parts of the course were hot but some shady , good mix. The end was a bit tricky. Wanted to hit 3 hrs, and had enough for a pace pick up at the end. The end was in sight but alas there was a final diversion through some woods for a quarter mile to the finish out the race. Tough to see the finish but have to go around. This downer cost me the extra minute What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: decompress in the shade, small stretches, rehydrate, food didn't look good for a while What limited your ability to perform faster: unfamiliarity with the distance, wetsuit transition problems Event comments: road course bumps were marked, some small holes could have been patches cheaply. I really get bugged by run courses that are not marked with distances and this one was not! WOuld like to know when to kick and what pace I am running. overall, survived and enjoyed my first oly!!!!!
