Lying to the FBI

Martha Stewart served 5 months in jail for lying to the FBI. Papadopoulos served 12 days for lying to the FBI. We should find out today what Flynn will be sentenced to for lying to the FBI.

On Flynn, the FBI asked him questions they already knew the answer to....a classic perjury trap. When they caught him in a lie they then threatened him with jail time and financial ruin. Talk about dirty cop tricks! Pretty sure this violate the spirit of Maranda rights....but I'm no lawyer.

I guess I take issue with the idea that if you lie to the Gubment you go to jail.....not for the crime they are investigating but simply because you lied....presumably to CYA or to protect someone else. Clinton lied under oath about an extramarital affair and I'd of done exactly the same thing he did to protect my family and my reputation. It's just human nature.

Government is not my god and I am not it's subject. Government was put in place to protect our liberty not to take our liberty if we are untruthful or mis-remember something.

Here is how I envision the Flynn perjury trap.

FBI wired tapped everyone in the Clinton campaign. They listened at Mike Flynn talked to his Russian counterpart during the transition. This was legal. FBI needed someone in Trump's inner circle to "turn". So they visit the White House, see Mike and say, "Hey Mike, how are things going? How's the wife and kids?" After some chit-chat they ask him, "Mike have you been talking to any Russians?" Mike says "Yes." "Did you talk about lifting Russian sanctions?" Mike says "no". GOTCHA!

Maybe this is an over simplification but it seems this is basically what happened.
