Subject: Hello from Minnesota - First-Timer! Hello everyone - joining the forum to get some advice, insight, and help others out a bit as I pursue my first triathlon. I love reading forums on lunch break, so here I am!
I'm a 43-year old father of two living near Minneapolis, with a running background since 2013. I've completed three marathons with a PR of 3:32 at a hot Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, MN in June 2017.
Just a bit about how I got here. Training for Twin Cities Marathon in 2018, I broke a metatarsal at the end of July 2018, which derailed the marathon training. The PA that I worked with for the foot encouraged me to be as active as I could handle for the three months I couldn't run. That's where I discovered that swimming and cycling provide great variety vs. running five days a week. Up until then, I'd biked and swam a bit here and there to mix it up - like a few times a year each. But getting serious about it made me want to attempt a triathlon.
I'm back to running since November 1, but continuing with lap swimming twice a week and exercise cycling twice a week, along with running four days per week. I know I should be more focused on my weaknesses - cycling and swimming - but I have to balance life also.
I'm signed up for the Olympic distance at the Graniteman Clearwater at the end of June.
Thank you all in advance for the advice, discussion, humor, and entertainment! |
