Swim
Comments: Start wasn't as bad as I thought. It was really pretty tame. Took about 200 - 300 yds to get spaced out, after that it was fine. Water was really dark! I was surprised that my overall swim was my best leg! I really didn't expect that. What would you do differently?: Swim Faster. Transition 1
Comments: Transition wasn't too bad. Run from the water was kind of long. The wading pools got most of the junk off my feet, but I went ahead and put socks on and a shirt. I also ate a hammergel in transition. What would you do differently?: take the gel on the bike Bike
Comments: Didn't think this was all that great at the time, but the average was better than I thought. May have gone out a little bit too hard. Felt good on the bike. Ate a clif bar at about 4 mile mark. What would you do differently?: rode 47 miles on Friday - wouldn't do that again before a race. Back and legs were sore and I didn't feel all that great. The 4 hr drive to Shreveport and the low quality sleep, I think, had me pretty well exhausted before we ever got started. Transition 2
Comments: Changed shirts - don't know why. Changed socks - the pair I had on the bike were completely soaking wet. Ate another hammergel. What would you do differently?: Stretch getting off the bike. Go without a shirt. Skip the gel. Run
Comments: Felt good leaving the transition area but about a half mile into the run, the belly felt really full, like nothing was getting out of it. I wanted to drink more water, but the belly didn't want it. Had to walk some on the run, but I struggled through it. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Once the full belly sets in, it's almost like I need to sit down for 20 minutes, then start again. Not sure what causes the full belly. Drank after each gel / bar so I thought things would be clearing my stomach just fine. Need to figure this out. Post race
Warm down: Sat down. drank a bottle of water. Stretched, rinsed off in shower on beach. Took about 15 minutes - was really overheated. What limited your ability to perform faster: The humidity was pretty high and it was getting warm. I think I probably was overheating on the run. Not sure how I keep that from happening either, but I need to figure it out. Event comments: Race was well done, people were very nice. It was a good event with a great goodie bag. Next year will be their 25th annual event, so it should be really special. Last updated: 2004-07-18 12:00 AM

Slept like crap. Up at 5, filled bottles, mixed solutions. Ate oatmeal, yogurt, a banana. Got to race site, set up transition area.
Stretched a little, swam a little.
