Comments: Again, this is a pretty small lake. If its longer than 1/3 mile I'd be surprised. So, we sorta had a course layout that bent around itself a bit. Remember those motorcycle things in TRON? I did OK I recon. I seem to have a recurring theme of not being able to get into a decent rhythm breathing wise. I had to breath every stroke. Navigation was a bit tough, but I think I'm improving. What would you do differently?: Better goggles? Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was pretty small and I was close to the exit, so I didn't leave my shoes on the bike like i've been threatening to try. I tried the no socks thing this time, but the insert in my bike shoe bunched up in both shoes and I had to work on them a bit. My best T1 to date though. I think it being a small area really helped out a lot. What would you do differently?: Remove the inserts from the bike shoes. Bike
Comments: After a few pedal strokes, reached down to the bottom tube to shift gears. But there was no shift levers!!! They're on the bar ends, dummy! That gave me a grin as it was a reminder of my new bike and this my first ride on it. There was plenty of wind on this ride. And a bit of it was quite fune. 22-24 mph with it on the back, and 18 ish into the wind. As you'd expect, the second half of the bike was into the wind. The road was pretty rough at times, but I was able to go over the rough parts and even RR tracks in the aero position. Quite an enjoyable ride. What would you do differently?: Take Gatorade rather than just water, even on this short of a deal. Transition 2
Comments: I'm estimating the time here (watch issues) and estimating it short so I err on overstating my run split. What would you do differently?: I need a fast tie system. I actually messed up tying a shoe and had to do it again! Run
Comments: I like the out and back courses so you can see who's winning the race and all that. Paced myself ok, I was winded from the bike and had to calm the breathing into a rythm for the first 1/2 mile or so. It was really hot to me. But I think I held on ok. Heard the wife and kids cheering - way cool! Post race
Warm down: Gatorade. walked around a bit. Found the boys and the wife. Stretched out. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim technique. Bike conditioning. My weight. Ideally, I'd drop about 15 or so. Event comments: It was fun. They don't know if/where they'll have it next year. But I like having a lot of these sprints to do over the summer I think. Next race is my first Oly in 16 years. (Well, they didn't call them Olympic Distance back then - Called them International distance.) Last updated: 2004-08-02 12:00 AM

Climbed in the van w/ the Wife and 2 boys - finally coaxed them into coming to watch me race. Drove to the race site drinking my now ritual 100% Kona coffee (even had to make special trip night before to get some.) Again - yum. Ate a Mrs. Fields cookie and drank some Gatorade.
Showed up at the race site at Shelbyville. This is my 3rd triathlon but the first one at this place. The event was held at the falling apart Fairfield Recreation Center. Which looks like the an old empty for years drive in theatre with weeds and stuff growing everywhere in their mini golf course and batting cages. Apparently, this must have been quite a place in the day. Now, the main use is by a few ski boats that tow folks around the little lake regularly.
Jogged around for a few minutes. It didn't take long as it was already feeling hot.
