Subject: Training plan with mixed event distances

A question came up a few weeks ago about how to plan for a race with mixed distances, i.e., Alcatraz Triathlon (1.5 mile swim, 18 mile bike and 8 mile run).  The next race level up for each of those distances would be an Ironman swim (2.4 miles), an Olympic bike (24.8 miles) and a Half Iron run (13.1 miles).  Here's a possible solution (I've done this with a mixed race schedule, i.e., training for a marathon while simultaneously training for a sprint triathlon).  Actually Ron covered it here in the past (http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=58335&posts=7&start=1), but this thread is specific to Alcatraz.  You must be at least a BT silver member!  (ron and marma, no commisions expected Innocent):

I went though the steps just to make sure it worked:

For Alcatraz Triathlon, June 3rd 2007

1.  On your home blog page, go to Quick links (just to the right of the calendar - upper left of page)
2.  Click on the trainingplans-list icon (yellow file cabinet)

To import swim training data:
3.  Scroll down to the Full Ironman training program
4.  Click on (import)
5.  For the import date, click on the icon with 3 dots [...].  This will bring up the calendar.
6.  Click on the forward icon [>] until you hit June 2007.
7.  Click on the the 3rd
8.  Click on the radial button (Import concludes on this date)
9.  On the import options uncheck the boxes (with the green checkmarks) that say:
Import bike data
Import run data
10.  Click on Import into planned training
11.  Click on import another plan

To import bike training data:
12.  Scroll down to one of the Olympic training plans
13.  Repeat steps 4-8
14.  This time uncheck the boxes (with the green checkmarks) that say:
Import swim data
Import run data
15.  Repeat steps 10 and 11

To import run training data:
16.  Scroll down to Half-Ironman training plan
17.  Repeat steps 4-8
18.  This time uncheck the boxes (with the green checkmarks) that say:
Import swim data
Import bike data
19.  Repeat steps 10 and 11

You should be all set for Alcatraz.  Modify as necessary.  You're on your own for other training schedules Laughing.  Hope this helps...

This is good stuff...will definitely have to link this in one of the FAQ's...thanks for the time in fleshing-out the details as this could work for ANY mixed distance with the programs here assuming you know what you are doing.
