Subject: RE: Training for 1/2 maryTexOma - 2007-01-22 2:44 PM Last fall I was training to run a half marathon in December. ITBS came along and ruined my life. I finally solved that problem, just in time to have really crappy weather mess up my January. So I'm running pretty well these days and I ran 8 miles one weekend, 9 miles the next weekend, only 6 miles the next weekend (weather stunk) and then 11 miles yesterday. There are two 1/2 marathons coming up. One is in 2 weeks on 2/10. The other one is 4/1 which would give me all of Feb and Mar to train for. Is it too soon to go for the 1/2 in two weeks, and if not, then should I not do a long run (one over 6-8 miles) next week in order to rest up for the 1/2 marathon? I don't care how I place in the run, I only want to finish under 2 hours. Here are my thoughts: If you paced at at 9-10 min/mile for the 11 miler, and felt fine afterwards when finishing in 1:40 or less, then I imagine that you could do the full 13.1 without issue in a few weeks. But if your pace was slower, ITB flared up, or other issues cropped up at all, then I'd wait for the April race and secure your sub-2hr finish after more rest/training/recovery/and a proper taper. |
