Anyone out there specifically compete in Clydesdale races? I start to feel ambitious when I look at other athena results in local races. A few years ago I did a few sprint tri's- my time was about 1:30. It's average for my age (28 then, 33 now), but not too bad if I compare myself to other Athena's. I'm on the heavy side even (I can't believe they consider over 150 to be Athena! I'm a good 205 and 5'10"). That time was pre-back injury, but it's a good goal for me to try to get back to that this summer. I took a look at www.teamclydesdale.org but it doesn't seem up to date for 2004 yet. Anyone out there know what it takes for an Athena to be considered competitive? I'm just dreaming here--- but it's inspiring. It's a different and healthier perspective for me to compare myself to other women of size rather than trying to keep up with some of the 110 pound runners I swim with!

It depends on the group -- one of my good friends races Athena -- she's 6 foot and around 175 and is VERY good -- she can beat a lot of men. There's another girl in our area who's Athena but also tall and thin -- she also blows away the rest of the Athenas like me (short and squat). However, the field of Athenas seems to be typically pretty small (I guess a lot of women don't want to admit their weight) so if you train well you could probably medal in some races.
