Swim
Comments: Started in the front to practice mixing it up with a lot of other people in preparation for IMCDA next week. Once out of the melee my goal was to swim strong, relaxed strokes and go from feet to feet. I found a great set of feet that I followed for nearly the entire swim. Probably my best OWS to date :) What would you do differently?: Not a whole lot. Transition 1
Comments: Just an easy, easy day so I walked the entire way to transition and pretty much took my time. What would you do differently?: Actually be racing the event then I'd have run to and from transition :) Bike
Comments: Where do I begin??? Biking is my strength so even going easy I expected to have a good split here. Immediately the wind started and I geared down to spin easy but it seemed like I was inching along. Started to have to pee about 8 miles in but you're riding along a river on one side and grass on the other so there's no cover. At the turnaround I was hoping there would be a portolet but no luck. Hopped off my bike leaned it against a race vehicle stood behind the car and pulled the shorts to the side. Problem solved. Hoped we'd get a tailwind but it was head and crosswinds all the way back. I was pretty demoralized as I came off the bike but I just kept telling myself my race was in 2 weeks. What would you do differently?: Again, if I was racing it would have been perhaps a different day. Transition 2
Comments: Oy vey, got to my rack after walking my bike in and had to go all the way around it to get my bike on. Then I thought it looked my wetsuit had gotten tossed into someone else's area so I picked it up and put it in my bag then finally got feet lubed, shoes and socks on and headed out. What would you do differently?: Actually be racing :) Run
Comments: I'm actually pretty shocked by this time :) Ran 3/1 intervals the whole way and dashed into a portolet at the very start of the run course. Sheesh my run intervals must have been fast. I also beat my time from last year by 2 minutes even though last year I ran the whole thing and this year I was going easy. What would you do differently?: Get more portolets on the course. Luckily I saw one for volunteers right as I was starting the run. Post race
Warm down: None - just grabbed my stuff and headed to the car as it was starting to pour. What limited your ability to perform faster: Doing the Ironman in 2 weeks :) Last updated: 2007-01-21 12:00 AM
