I'm horrible with dates; you all are correct -- the Tawas Tri is the weekend after Labor Day.

Instead, the same aforementioned group is going to be heading up to Traverse City for their first Tri hosted by Grand Traverse Lodge.  It sounds like a great event, but since it's their first, they're limiting the pack to 300 racers.  They're also giving great rates on rooms - we booked a 2 bedroom condo on the beach for $200/night.  It ought to be nice and close to the reggae beach party following the race!

Anyone else looking for a race Labor Day weekend?

I wanted to do this race so bad, I even thought about doing the sprint. I am doing an olympic triathlon in Malibu CA on the 12th, so it would be way too close.

It is the Grand Traverse Resort that is putting on the event. I will be at the event to cheer on everyone, and having a nice dinner at aeries that night.

I really want to do this race

I'm in for the sprint!  We'll see how this goes since I'm doing the Breakwater 1/2 the weekend before.

I signed up last weekend.  I'm in for the Olympic and my husband is doing the sprint which will be his first tri.  I have e-mailed about the kids event, but haven't heard anything back yet.

Was reading about the first transition- having to bag your stuff.  Has anyone had to do that before?  Sounds a little confusing.  I would hate to loose my wet suit.

It's the same setup as the Motor City; it's really not that bad.  Tip:  don't use the bags they give you.  Bring one of those 50 gal. black yard bags and tape your number on it on both sides -- the extra large opening makes tossing in your wetsuit a snap!

I caved, I am doing the sprint. Not sure if I am going to go all out on it though... 6 Days later I will be doing an Oly, and I want to finish the year strong.

I already have company at my house this weekend but in Acme, there is a Holiday Inn Express and another major chain hotel right next to that one.  Both are about less than a mile from the GT resort, and probably less expensive.

Heads up on the bike course. Not only does it have a few monster hills, but Brackett road is mighty rough in some spots (mile 2-5 especially). I am really excited nonetheless.

Hey lodac, we need to meet up man. I have no tri friends in the area. Are you involved in any organizations or training groups?

Is anyone planning to hit up the after party at the Shores? Sounds like it could be pretty cool.

A tiny possibility that I might do it.  We'll be up north for the weekend and will have everything with me since we're doing a long run and a medium-long ride between Fri and Sat.  Might be a game day decision if my legs are still working.  It would mean breaking my boycott of 3D events though...Undecided

If nothing else we'll be there to spectate (if we bring our dogs) or to volunteer (sans dogs) since we have some friends that are racing.

I may come out and spectate, unfortunately I'm on call this weekend so I can't get too far from a computer and my phone.

Due to the party afterwards, I was able to convince 4 other buddies to enter the race, and there's probably another 10-12 coming up just for party/Labor Day's sake. Ought to be an awesome time!!!

for sure man.  Right now I am pegged for training time, I have gone from 10-18 hours of training per week to 5 if that. It is said, but I am so busy with work that I have been pouring over 70 hours a week in to work, infact I am at work right now.

This tri and then 6 days later will be my last tri for the year, I believe. I have been tossing around some of the local runs (Half Mary if possible) and I think someone said there is a Century around in October. I am down for a training partner over the winter, for the next month after my last tri I am going to continue my focus on work and then I would like to start working on building a strong base for 2010, I want to do a couple Sprint Tris , 3-4 Olympic Tris, Two Half Mary's and one HIM (Silverman).

Do you cross country ski? I have had about 5 people tell me I need to get into it. I was thinking about it.

I am super stoked for this sunday.

Funny you mention x-country skiing, because I was thinking of buying a pair of my own this season. Now that I am finished with school and am going to be up here in TC for the winter, it will be an essential alternative to biking & swimming - plus not only is it an amazing workout, but a good way to get outside during the cold months.

I agree with your base-building plan for 2010. Taking on a few olympics is my goal in addition to some early season running events or whatever looks fun. I also can't wait to get back into resistence training and lifting a little more. Additionally, using the pool, Bikrham yoga, and spinning are some areas to focus on.

Good to hear your staying busy rather than not busy enough. Im still looking for a job while doing freelance work and in the process of building my own business. My life is going through some interesting transitions - all positive though. I'd definitely love to have someone to train with.

Also very stoked for sunday (and today b/c I get to load calories and rest a little!).
Good luck with your prep & your next tri after Sunday!

Nice work! That is great to hear! Sometimes I am skeptical about these events, especially due to the smaller field. However you're right - definitely should be an awesome time. I am looking forward to meeting some of you fellow triathletes!

Was planning on signing up, but it looks like registration is now closed.  Sad, because this looked like it would be a good time.  Have fun out there.

You can still sign up the morning of. Or perhaps during the packet pickup Saturday afternoon. I am almost certian it's not full. After checking the site last week, they said 200 of the 300 slots were still available.

Awesome after party -- the dinner was great.

And talking about hills..... WOW!  That first major one was something borrowed from a Cedar Point ride; I got up to 40 on the backside heading back into the resort!
