Keith posted on HRTC that they are working on an Olympic or quarter-iron too, but details aren't done yet.

If it doesn't come through, I'll probably run the sprint!

I'm really looking forward to doing the Half-Iron. I'm really excited about this race. I love Galveston. What is everybody else planning on racing?

I'll be working at the event in some form or fashion so I don't know if I'll be able to race, but I will be there!

Its right before IMAZ, maybe the week before? So, if anything just the sprint.

This race looks like it is really going to be awesome! I am sure we will be in. Probably the sprint, maybe the relay half iron, or if I get really crazy and somehow think I can swim 1.2 by then, maybe I'll give the 1/2 a shot!

I am planning for this one at the Olympic distance.  With the 1/2 marathon training between now and then, I should not have a problem moving from the sprint to oly.  We shall see.  The website looks great and I am looking forward in participating in this event, at whatever distance.

Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - UPDATE - OLY PAGE UP!

The Olympic Distance page is posted now!

Texasyogi, this will be a GREAT place to do your first tri.  I did my first tri there in 2005.  Back then it was poorly managed by a different race director, but hooked me into this great sport all the same.  This new RD has a STELLAR reputation; you are going to enjoy a first-class event.

So, are we all gonna register on November 1 to get the best bib #s?

I think I am going crazy. I think we are both going to do the 1/2. Should be a blast but I am betting it will be a windy bike leg.

Man, I'm really hoping it will be calm. I'm really worried about the wind right now.

When the race website warns about wind, you know you MIGHT have a little problem. I have never ridden down there, but I do go fishing down there quite a bit and I know just how brutal the wind can be at times. The only comfort is knowing that everyone else is going through the same thing that you are!

It CAN be windy, it CAN be calm. It is DEFINITELY flat.

One of the prime reasons it's a 2 loop bike is to help out in case of winds....This way, it'll be broken up into 4 pieces of out/back. Instead of 28 miles into a headwind, you'll only have 14 before a good tailwind.

I did an Olympic there this year, and it was very calm. Because it's on the coast, the chance of wind is pretty good, I'd guess.

There might be wind, there might not. Some days the gulf and its winds are perfectly flat. You can't predict it, but Prodrive, its not anything worse than what the winds up here in North Dallas have been the last 2 days.

It was 25mph on my run yesterday, it was brutal. Galveston's are usually not that strong unless there is a storm. There is a chance for winds though, but I don't see why it should be something to be scared of.

You may want to check a Farmer's Almanac for past wind conditions.

I'd agree with Comet. It's certainly nothing to be worried about. There can be wind anywhere.
BUT, it can't be FLAT everywhere

This just in....
Andrea Fisher and Jamie Cleveland will be hosting the First Timer's clinic on the Friday evening before the race, to help out with those first-timer's jitters.

They'll also speak at the Saturday evening Carbo Load Gala, Tropics-Style....

They'd like to do a open water swim clinic on Saturday afternoon, I'm just working on a timeline...

Good stuff....

Also have confirmation we'll have Gatorade Endurance for both the bike and the run....

I've spent some time on the event page and this definately looks like a blast. I'd probably opt for the Oly, but I'm not ruling out the HIM.
