Pro 15655 | Subject: Leaving Facebook? I see some stories that quite a few people are leaving and deleting their FB accounts. Anybody here quitting FB after finding out that all the personal information you freely gave away was used by anybody who wanted to get it? LMAO Edited by Left Brain 2018-03-21 1:52 PM |

Most of it a load of chit but there are a few benefits that I enjoy on FB. 10. Keep in touch with extended family. Have an 84 yo uncle who recently posted a bunch of video of him playing the accordion at the old folks home and the old timers dancing. Have two nieces in south America and a son in Israel who post pictures of their adventures and tourism. Have cousin I had not talked to or seen in 30 years and we reconnected on FB. 9. Get information about the Rogillio family reunions. There are about 2,000 Rogillio households in the US and we all trace back to the same man who founded Rogillioville, LA in the 1780s. 8. A way to publish my personal data so it can be used my political parties so they can sway my vote 7. Keep in touch with old friends and HS classmates. We had a small class and were pretty close and about 1/3 of us stay in touch on FB 6. Fun source of joke, funny videos, etc 5. Find new ways to waste my money on crap I don't really need 4. To see what people had for breakfast! 3. Stay in touch with people - I am still friends with 6 BTers who all did IMKY. We met on BT and posted daily for a year as we all trained. Then we all met in Louisville and hung out together and eventually connected on FB. 2. See spooky Amazon ads on FB if I even just THINK about a product. 1. But the best reason I have found to get on FB is to keep up with what my kids are posting! I decided when they got FB accounts I would get one too Edited by Rogillio 2018-03-22 12:17 PM |

1502 Katy, Texas | Subject: RE: Leaving Facebook? What "personal" information are people so concerned about? Breezing through my recent posts, anyone spying would see that I took my daughters to get their ears pierced recently, ran a half marathon in which I wore an old pair of my mom's sunglasses, a picture of myself and my son and daughter, that it was "rodeo day" in kindergarten two weeks ago and that I ran a 5k where absolutely nobody even moderately fast showed up and I somehow won....oh and some pictures of my son at his new preschool. That sums up the last two months of posts. If someone at the CIA is seriously looking at that, I'm more outraged at the absolute waste of tax dollars. Whenever I see people get their panties in a bunch about privacy, my first thought is, "you're just not that important...nobody cares." It's like that scene from Jurassic Park: https://youtu.be/9nkbyAh9Hj0 The general rule of thumb on the internet, or in life in general, is don't post anything, or say anything in public that you don't want everyone to know. It's pretty simple. But for the most part, you're just not that interesting and nobody cares (that "you" is directed at everyone). |

LOL https://www.mapquest.com/us/la/rogillioville-283392212 It's a real place.....sort of. It used to be a small town in Feliciana Parish and I remember when I was a kid my dad telling that about the only thing left there was a post office. I was in the area several years ago with my kids and looked for the place. There is nothing there! It is still a registered township in LA but the only thing we found in the area was a cemetery with a bunch of dead Rogillio's dating back to the early 1800s. |

Not a gubmint worker, but they had all the security checks for airport security clearances. Sigh, what is this Facebook thingy anyway? |

Oh sorry, mean to post that on ST, forgot this is BT. |

Sorry to say, but it's kind of naïve to think that your info stays private on any site where you share your info. This wasn't that shocking to me, when it hit the news, but scandals sell, so there's that. |

Sorry to say, but it's kind of naïve to think that your info stays private on any site where you share your info. This wasn't that shocking to me, when it hit the news, but scandals sell, so there's that. Exactly! People should not expect anything they do on the internet will remain private except maybe their credit card number and banking ID/passwords. I am starting to see politician calling for legislation to protect people's 'data'. Not sure exactly what data they want to protect. FB is a corporation and they provide a free service in exchange for your data! I don't think we need big brother watching over us to protect us from ourselves. If you don't want Google telling porn sites you have been searching for photos of naked women then don't Google photos of naked women! I actually think the data sharing is kind of cool. I was recently in the market for a good pool pump. I search 'best pool pumps' and magically ads started popping up on my FB. I clicked on one and it took me to my Amazon account. I found an awesome variable speed energy efficient pump! I read the reviews and bought it to the tune of about $700. I also find it fascinating that Google can track trends by the number of times people search on a particular topic. This seems like the ultimate polling data! |
