Subject: RE: Swim Suit / Jammers Helproadnoob412 - 2009-06-16 2:31 PM Gotcha - thanks Roch!
So do folks swim in the Tri Shorts too? I was looking to do this in one pair of shorts - is that reasonable/feasible?
I think I saw on the BT website a brand called Aevero? They made a set of tri shorts for $29. That seemed like a really good deal, but is it one of those cases where you get what you pay for?
Thanks, and sorry for hijacking the thread... When racing, yes, you swim in the tri-shorts. The reason that there is a specific "tri-short" is for just what you asked, if you can do all 3 disciplines in one bit of clothing. People don't train in them because the material doesn't hold up well to the chlorine in a pool. If you're doing an open water swim (OWS ) you can feel free to wear the tri-shorts. That being said, if you plan on losing a bit of weight, you may find it more budget friendly to do the whole race in a pair of jammers. If you're doing a sprint, that is. Since the bike is generally pretty short, you won't be on the bike too long where you'll need the padding that you get with a tri-short. And you'll usually find jammers for much less than tri-shorts. And the reason that people don't just wear a regular bike short, is that the pad is much bigger in those. Then after the swim, it's like a diaper, and can be rather bothersome for the run as well. In the tri-short, the padding is much less pronounced. It's more like a little buffer from the saddle than an actual bit of padding. |
