silly question, I got the challenge and clicked on it and then signed into the nike website but then how do I go and look at the challenge? Will I not see anything until I upload something?

Anyone know?

ETA: Nevermind - found it!

i just turned in my time from the 5K this morning. my time was right about where i thought it would be. I saw the clock counting down to 30min on the last stretch and i was NOT gonna let myself get over 30, lol. 29:58 for me, woohoo. I think i need to recalculate my iPod b/c it was off by quite a bit.

okay, official challenges started today! the trial runs went well. i had a rest day today, and may have another tomorrow, depending on what the day holds. the house is a mess after a weekend of bday party, family in town, etc. anyway, i need to calibrate my ipod before my next run. it doesn't seem to be as off as my brother's. it was off by about +.1 miles for my longer runs (as compared to the cyclometer on the jogging stroller). my brother did a 10 mile race today and at about 7 1/2 miles, it was telling him he'd gone 8 miles. so, calibrate! have a great month of running w/ your nike+!

Aagh my nano's gone crazy, last night it registered a 5.5km (verifed distance) as 4.7km, today it didn't upload to Nikeplus and wipe the run and now the sound has died.

Needless to say it's at the Apple service centre as we speak awaiting a replacement.

well, i tried calibrating my nano for the first time...and i say 'the first' because i will have to calibrate again - its more off now than it was before! we made a .35 mile course around our block. we put down a starting line and my husband checked the distance w/ his bike and the bike computer. i did the run at a relaxed pace, as it says to do. i did it last night because i was had a certified 10k race today, which i thought would be a good way to test the calibration. well, here is the break down of the 3 '10k' runs i've done in the last couple weeks:

post-calibration #1:
oct 7 10 kilometers (certified course)
nano: 58:13 6.59 miles 8:49 pace
certified 10k 57:15? 6.2 miles 9:12 pace
nano off by .39 miles

pre-calibration:
oct 3 "10k" roughly, measuring against the jogging stroller computer
nano: 59m 04s 6.24 miles 9m 28s /mile
stroller: 59:04 5.88 miles 10 mm pace
nano off by .36 miles

pre-calibration: sept 26 "10k" roughly, measuring against the jogging stroller computer
nano: 1:03:04 6.12 10:17 pace
stroller: 1:02:01 5.98 10:22 pace
nano off by .19 miles

Well the challenge is not going quite as well as I had hoped, firstly problems with the technology, secondly got my Ipod back from Apple went for some runs but found Apple had formatted the Nano on a Mac and of course I am running a PC so needed to reformat the Nano and lost the data (again).

And Thirdly thought I would share with you the last long (12.5) km run I did on the weekend and you can see why I didnt take the nano along for the run.

what an awesome place for a run! this technology is new, so i feel like we're doing our part to at least try the challenges. no worries. once your nano is formated and your shoes are dry, hop back in

here's my nike+ update:

from my log:

last long run before the big woods 1/2 marathon trail run (and before the snow comes!). with fi in the jogger. up to the lake via the 'trains' route, two laps around the lake, up to the ped bridge in the park, up to the zoo, trails, up lex and then the 'trains' route home. along one of the leaf covered trails, i twisted my ankle. foot rolled into a leaf filled pothole. crunch. felt okay right after and i was able to keep the same pace for the last 3 miles home. feels okay now. fingers crossed.

for those doing the nano challenge, you might notice that my nike+ account says i ran twice today - 2.63, and then 6.34, equalling 8.97. that missing 1 mile (roughly) was my second attempt at calibration. first run was pre-calibration, and was off by .15 for a little over 2 miles. the plan was to use the WHOLE 1.6 mile lake lap, since its a posted distance. nano only goes to 1.25 for calibration. d'oh! so, i went off the jogging stroller cyclometer, ending at 1 mile. had some concerns about calibrating while pushing the stroller, but really - most of my runs are with the stroller! will see what it says the next time i run solo. also double checked the stroller cyclometer - close enough @ 1.66. had to go over to the bike path for a while to get around some park workers who were parked on the ped path and clearing branches, which might account for some of that extra .06 miles.

the good news - the 2nd calibration seems to have done the trick! still not exact compared to the jogger, but darned close. nano was behind the stroller, then exactly the same, then creeped ahead, but overall it is MUCH better than it was with the default or the first calibration attempt. (N= nano, S=stroller cyclometer):

to lake (pre-calibration):
N: 2.63 m, 26:15, 9:57 pace
S: 2.48 m, 25:36, 10:19 pace
nano off by .15 miles

calibration
S: 1 m, 9:30

rest of the run (restarted jogger 'puter and nano):
N: .59 m, S: .6

N: 2.0 miles, S: 2.0 miles

N: 3.02 miles, S: 3.0 miles

N: 6.34 m, 1:04:08, 10:06 pace
S: 6.26 m, 1:03:37, 10:09 pace
nano only off by .08!

so, for the first part of the run, with bad calibration, the nano was off by .15 for roughly 2 1/2 miles. for the last 7.34, it only was off by .08! major improvement compared to the +.3 miles it was off for some of the 10k runs earlier this month.

I used my ipodsensor right out of the box ad compared it with the Timex Bodylink GPS and over a 10 mile run it was .02 miles off. the ipod displayed me that much shorter than the GPS. I have no complaint. That is close enough for me.

I want to get in the challenge for november. I think I am a bit late for October. Oh well....

Please excuse my ignorance, but what's the Nike+ ipod? I know that there is a Nike shoe that can talk to an iPod. That's all I know. Please help.

It's made up of two pieces of kit, firstly a small transmitter which can fit in a Nike+ shoe (or attached to other shoes by different means) and a received which attaches to the bottom of your ipod nano.

The Nike+Ipod then measures time and distance and gives you feedback on the run which is then uploaded to the Nikeplus site for you to review. Additionally you can join in challenges like this one where you compete against other people (or yourself) for most distance, fastest 10km etc.
