Veteran 248![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Born To Tri this weekendI plan on being there. If by "non bike friendly" you mean a multi-loop course w a lot of turns, I guess I would agree w you there. I did the July 16th Metroman race and there were a lot of turns, but it was only a one-loop course. On the positive side - I suppose my family will be able to see me 3x on the bike - so that always helps keep a good morale in the cheering section |

Went down yesterday and did a very minor swim in the ocean. Seas were not friendly. I drove the bike course and alot of 90 degree turns and some tight roads but agree with the above comment. Plus it would appear we may run by them twice on the boardwalk.... What does not look fun will be the swim exit from the ocean to the transition area..... |

Veteran 248![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Born To Tri this weekendBK - is the transition in the parking lot behind the casino? That's where it was for Metroman. It is a hike from the water for sure, over cracked concrete and NJ shore yick. However, I didnt even notice it when I ran over it a few weeks ago I did notice that I was a bit winded from that long hike to T1. The water was not nice on that day either - 2 ft+ swells and very cold. Difficult to sight the turnaround bouy, and the return half of the swim was against the current. It took me 22mins (!) compared to a 10-11min swim time (for me) had it have been in a lake. Ouch. On a positive side - the boardwalk run was fun (except for the times when you had to dodge the tourists milling about). Nonetheless, my wife is amenable to coming and bringing the kids along (we are staying overnite Satruday) so I'll take that cheering section anytime, since I wont have to worry about podiums or hardware for a long time. |

Regular 93![]() ![]() ![]() Marlboro, NJ | Subject: RE: Born To Tri this weekendYes, it appears the transition area is the same as it was for Metroman. When I was there yesterday standing on the beach it just looked like a very, very long run to that parking lot. I imagine T1 times will be a little "higher" then norm...plus running through the beach. Oh well, I look at it as an experience and enjoyment! We are there to have fun, right? |

Extreme Veteran 562![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Born To Tri this weekendPlan on doing the swim course tomorrow. Probably check out the bike course on Wednesday. I live in the area and the bike course around the lake at the north end could be bumpy! Will post results in the coming days. |

Actually, the timing mat for T1 was right at the entry to the parking lot - so the additional time was included in the swim. +1 on the "have fun" - this is a great spectator venue, and if it turns out to be a nice beach day then it's a home run event. JS Multisport put on a great event (Lavaman) earlier in June. This is a "fun" race for me ... with the family attending. At this point I dont have any other events planned except for a HIM @ Round Valley NJ (Belly of the Beast) which I have almost convinced myself to take on, barring injur or overtraining in the next few weeks. |

Great..so swimming against the current (possibly) and then a long run to T1...can't wait to see the swim times...lol!!!! |

Extreme Veteran 562![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Born To Tri this weekendSwam the swim course this morning around 8:00. No waves, no chop, nice swim. Temp good, too. Going to check the bike course later today. (Don't expect any Bruce sightings. He lives in Rumson and never shows for the Sheehan Classic, so I doubt he'll be at Asbury. Sometimes he or Bon Jovi will show up for their kids games but not to spectate other games.......sorry. ) |

Extreme Veteran 562![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Born To Tri this weekendDrove the bike course (Sorry, it's around 90 here today so not going to ride it until maybe tomorrow morning). The first left off Ocean onto 7th has some bumps at the crosswalk and the right from 7th onto Kingsley has some patches, too. The north end as you transition off Kingsley Street to Ocean Avenue as you go around Deal Lake has two bone jaring bumps as you turn right, maybe we can stay left and avoid them. Once you get into Loch Arbour, it smooths out. The approach back onto Kingsley has some patch work and is uneven, but not as bad leaving Kingsley. The rest, like Ocean Ave, is pretty smooth. The south leg has a real tight turn off Cookman onto Heck. Also when you start the second and third loops there is a S turn off Lake Ave back onto Cookman, then a right onto Asbury Ave before you get onto Ocean. So there might be some two way traffic at the intersection of Cookman and Asbury. Otherwise a nice route. You go pass the Stone Pony, Convention Center, Deal Lake (Watch the beginning and end) and Sunset Lake. Oh yeah, parking is by meter. Free parking ends at 9:00am. Remember your parking number then find a blue meter that you can pay with cash or credit card. The blue meters are close to intersections..... |

Member 35![]() Jersey Shore | Subject: RE: Born To Tri this weekendAs race director for Born To Tri, I want to thank you guys for putting the venue out there and active on BT. My name is Chris Wilcox, and I live here at the Jersey Shore, Point Pleasant to be exact. Proud to say I have seen Bruce at The Pony, and I am up late tonight mixing music for the start of the race on my iTunes. Someone mentioned to me to check this site out. Though I have been a member for a year or more, I've never stopped in to browse. Triathlon on the web is exploding and it's impossible for me to be everywhere, especially while I have been trying to get my own stuff going from scratch. It looks like we'll hear Bruce more at the finish and post race than the start. I hope a little Pearl Jam, U2 and ColdPlay passes the mustard, but I guess I have to get some Boss in on the swim warmup or risk getting panned here. Just updated the run course and I really like it. Not sure why the website here goes to JS Running Club. Mine is www.jsmultisport.com If one of you guys or gals could help me get that fixed, I'd appreciate it. I emailed support already. Happy to answer any questions you may have regarding my goals, Born2Tri race logistics, post race,... Here or email me. Thanks again for keeping Born To Tri on the radar. I like what you got going here on BT. All good things- Chris |

Veteran 248![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Born To Tri this weekendHi Chris - welcome! I raced in your Lavaman tri earlier this season - nice job - awesome course, and the volunteers and everything was great. The rain even managed to let up a little on the run which was nice. I am bringing the family again down the shore, and looking forward to the race. (If you can straighten-out the bike course to remove some turns that would be cool How many entrants are you expecting? What's the latest water temp? Can I request "All Along the Watchtower" or "Infinity" by Guru Josh Project? See you Sunday! (Or saturday @ packet pickup) |

Member 35![]() Jersey Shore | Subject: RE: Born To Tri this weekendThank you Millman. I can't tell you how many people still come up to me and say they had a great time at LavaMan. You guys made it, I just get you rolling. We are serving eggs and potatos for breakfast, but road rash is not on the menu, so be smart out there, and thanks again for all the support as The Jersey Shore Sprint Series continues to grow. You can say you were there in the beginning. Not many people will be able to say that down the road, so we are building our own tradition from the ground up- and you are a part of it! |

I thought we'd have more, but this our first year and it is a building process, and also a process where we build loyalty and friends by putting on a great race. Chris, Can not wait till afterwards to raise a glass and say we finished the first one! Love the fact competing in the first Born to Tri...! Here's to beautiful weather on sunday! |

I'll make it a point to introduce myself. Thanks for putting on the race! |
