Subject: Got Scars?
Hello, Everyone.

I'm looking for everyday triathletes to model scars they have acquired out of love for their sport. If you have suggestions of either common scars acquired from swimming, biking or running, please email me.

For example, I have a good size scar from my heart monitor rubbing against my rib cage while running. Ironic.

Thanks for your help!

I've got the scar of about 12 sprocket teeth puncturing my leg when my chain came off in a wreck years ago.

I've got a scar about the size of a quarter on the left part of my chin from when I was hit by a car and went through the windshield. I figure that one is stickin' around for a while...

I've got a scar from where my arm was surgically re-attached. OK, it's not a triathlon scar, but it's still pretty cool :-)

Nice... LOL

I have a couple of scars. My road rash from the Green Bay Duathlon last year left a permanent pink quarter size scar on the outside of my right knee... Very sexy.

More than I can count.

The best are from the 40 some-odd stitches in my face from a mtn. biking accident.  Oops!  ( I had a good surgeon, so I look better now than before ).

okay, i may be too late on this... but i ONLY have a quarter inch scar from my mt. biking accident. I chose to scalpel the embedded rocks out of that hole, neosporin really does wonders. Not as cool as the six year old indusing scar.

Ok...very interesting that you had your arm re-attached.

What is the story behind that??? You also must have an amazing story now that you are a triathlete..

My mouth dropped when I read that your "arm was reattached"

Tell us more....

OK, the arm was only partially amputated/severed- right arm between the elbow and shoulder was pretty much torn off when I was 10 - fell out of a tall treehouse, caught it on a big nail part way down. Spent a few months in the hospital, started writing with my left hand because the docs said I would never get full use of my right arm back.

The doctors learned the same thing my parents and my wife found out the hard way - never tell me I can't do something, because I'm sure to try it :-) The only residual effect is that my pinky finger is weak - it flaps around when I swim which is somewhat annoying, but I can live with that. Luckily the major wound was right right between the bicep and tricep, so I didn't lose much muscle, and I didn't hit a major artery.

Worst summer vacation ever.

Had a wreck at Lake Tahoe in early June. My chainring decided it needed to puncture my calf and then ride down my leg until it go to my shoe and had no where else to go. If I can figure out how to attach the photo, I will show it...

Kevin

**EDIT**

It's hard to see now, but the scar is just below where the knee bends. Look where the blood starts...The dark part above that is where it just kept getting stuck to my leg when I would pedal.

I have a comma shaped scar on my right knee where I fell on my mountain bike, my knee went into my chainring and me and my bike slid down the side of a hill together in that position thru poison ivy. I got poison ivy inside the cut, which was pretty deep, but of course, I didn't go to the doctor, I just sucked it up for a month until it all healed. Then after it was healed I went out and rode the same trail and did the same thing again in the exact same spot - sans poison ivy this time though. So I have a permanent pretty obvious scar on my knee. But it's cool.

How about scars from surgery that kept you from participating in triathlons.  My left foot has some wicked scars from acute lisfranc dislocation that needed to be surgically repaired with pins and screws?!?!

Have some road rash burns on my arm and elbows from when my chain snapped off my mountain bike while going down hill. But the big scar I have is a line going up my forhead to the back of my head. I had a linear skull fracture from a theatre accident. And you though doing tri's were dangerous...just try acting. Had a 4lbs lead weight fall over 50ft and hit me on the head....well it skimmed my head...if it would have hit me dead on...well I would be dead on the floor. I like to tell people it was from a bar fight...sounds better.
