I just started doing 3 minutes of abs, and 2 minutes of gluts. I want to do this three times a week. I know I would be more likely to keep up with it if I had someone to be accountable to.

Also, I've never been able to do a 'man' pushup. Not one. Ever. So I decided to make that a goal for March. Laugh if you want to, but I decided I would try to build up to it by first doing 5 pushups a day over a raisin can. I'll find something lower for next week, and the next, etc.

Would anyone like to join me?

Oh, yeah, you don't have to do exactly what I am doing. You can post your own goals.

I think a core and push-up challenge is great and would love to help you stay motivated. I'd like to do a core work-out (ABS of steel) 3 times a week. Something you might consider is doing push-ups on stairs. As you improve you can move down the stairs. Star with your feet at the bottom and see if you can do 10. As you get stronger move your feet back and place your hands down on the next lowest stair. You will work your way down to doing them on the floor.

Count me in-- but I need to think of my own goals and start later. Will certainly include push-ups (I've been practicing since January and can do the man kind now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but need to get them lower) and abs- 3 minutes might be a good one, daily.

Great idea! I'm in....will post my commitment later after I think on that.

I'm in.  Count me in for 3 sessions of push-ups and abs a week.  100 per session.

edited to say 100 each per session :-)

Hee hee  Cool!  I wrote on my blog yesterday that I was starting a lil' personnal challenge of 100 crunches a day in March.  I'm in.   Plus, I'll add 50 push ups to that!  A ratio of 50 to 1 is okay with you?

Stairs are a great idea; unfortunately I don't have any in my house. Maybe I'll start on the piano bench and work my way down. Hmmm....

Shoeless, definitely do whatever you can to up your reps higher than 5.  Do more knee (girl ) pushups or whatever it takes but you won't build up very quickly only doing five.  The piano bench sounds perfect.  Best of luck!

I did my abs/gluts yesterday, and my five pushups. Going to go M,W,F.

I would at least do a couple of sets of 5. Maybe one set of the 5 Man pushups then follow it up with one set of 5 with one knee down then another set down on both knees.

At my karate school you would be amazed, or not, at how the guys will NOT drop to their knees. It simply isn't manly for them to do that. he he I think it's slightly embarrasing for them to see a girl do more man pushups than them.  I LOVE IT!!!

Uggh, I'm not much of an inspiration. I did not do my abs on Friday. I had more than a little stress Thurs--Fri, but I'm bouncing back.

Guess I should have thought of a penalty if we don't keep up. Go ahead, tell me how I should punish myself?

They are certainly not in a row I like to do sets of 10 in between my lifting excercises.  If I do them alone I do sets of 25.  Those are never all on my toes. I can only do about 2x25 on my toes anymore.  The one thing I've learned is you have to do them in order to do them.  I would try and max out once a week (on my toes), then I would do a second set trying to max out and naturally I couldn't do the same amount, so I would do the remaining on my knees. Then another set same way.  Other days during the week I would just do the sets (4x25).  At one point I was able to do 67 in a row on my toes. Those were the good old days

When I was in the service, in boot camp there was a girl who couldn't do one pushup on her toes.  By the end of 3 months of basic training she was able to do about 40 something.  Of course, you aren't in basic training, but I'm certain if you do them and do them and do them you'll be able to do MANY!!!

This mini challenge has encouraged me to get back into doing them. Thank you for that

I had to do two days in a row last week to stay with the plan, but I got it done. I might have to switch to every day for the rest of the month. That way there will be no excuses!
