Subject: Iron supplements/cramping/restless legs

I'm having a major convergence of issues.  For as long as I can remember, I've been sickly.  Am frequently tired and ill.  I have recently developed cramping (random times and places).  My doctor has advised me to take iron supplements.  On another avenue, I went through a sleep study to find out why I can't sleep.  They found that I only achieve restful sleep 85% of the time (the benchmark is 95%).  My doctor thinks I have restless leg syndrome and is giving me medication.  She also thinks this is related to an iron deficiency.

My concern is this:  If I do have RLS, the doctor says that the only long term treatment are prescription drugs...not a fan.

Is it possible that the RLS is Iron related?  Can I make dietary changes to help?  Anyone having simmilar issues?

On the other hand, I'm wondering what a good's night rest will do to my training?

I am definitely not a doctor - but I also have RLS. Several years ago my wife had a professor tell her for my to try tonic water. I did and was amazed that in only a few min my legs settled down. I am a skeptical person but was in agony several times a week with my legs and after finding this "cure" I am a whole hearted believer. I keep a couple of bottles in my fridge now and as soon as my legs start twitching - I down a couple of oz's and the twitches are gone. I don't know why or how it works but for me - it works fantastic.

It isn't great tasting stuff - but not too bad cold.

I have agitated sleep and mild restless legs. There are natural and homeopathic remedies that you might want to try before the prescription drug route, and after you've tried the iron supplements. If amenable you may want to consider seeing a homeopathic physician.

I do not take script drugs, and have used Calms Forte and Zincum metallicum successfully. Here are some other options: Homeopathic Remedies for Restless Legs

Good Luck!
