Subject: very late start on the season, looking for advice

The Friday after thanksgiving last year I decided to get back into shape. Since i stopped  running track in college 7 years ago i gained nearly 50LBS. I busted my butt all winter and ran my first 1/2 marathon in may at 1:48. since may I really haven't done much thu my own fault. 3 weeks ago I help a friend fix her bike, she mentioned that she was competing in a DU the following weekend I gave her some advice and then she asked me a dangerous question that I didn't have an answer for "Why aren't you running next weekend?"

I have always wanted to compete in a multisport event just never really dedicated myself to it. So I jumped headfirst into the fire and signed up for the DU. 3/20/2MI at 1:56 8:20mm 18MPH finished 3rd in clyd and 3rd AG.

So now I'm hooked, and am committing to training and signed up for 2 more DU's before the season ends. Sep 27 and Oct 13,(5K-10MI-5K distances) however I am totally at a loss for a training program. I am in decent cardio shape but I could use some advice on that to do for the next 6-8 weeks to get better prepared. I understand that I am not going to see the results I would with a full structured training program but I want to maximize the time I have.

Oh yeah and I pick up my new bike tomorrow

I aqm not the most qualified here but get started riding 3 times a week find a local club and join the club rides you will soon find out who is ate your pace. run 3 times a week take one day and near your race distance 3 to 5 easy, a second day run about 3 but add some easy pick ups in, and the third run of the week should be an over distence run say 5 miles easy.  Do not over do it it sounds like you have good ability but with out a base you can be injured easy and mostly have fun dont think you need to the the superstar this year

Congrats on the new bike and finding a new passion.

I'd look at training plans here on BT and work backwards into where to start (say you are 6 weeks out from last event...count from end 6 weeks) and see if what would be the week you'd need to be on makes sense to where you are fitness wise. Just be careful jumping in and doing to much to quickly as often that causes injuries.

I'd suggest running 3-4x a week and biking 3-4x a week.  I'd do brick workouts that maybe would be something like 15' run/hour bike/15' run once a week and count it towards one of each of your workouts.
