Subject: RE: New to Tri's not new to ExerciseThe two basic upgrade are clipless pedals and aero bars (in that order) these are the easiest, cheapest and most effective upgrade you can make to a road bike. After that can vary depending on the rider and what you want to focus on. Some would change the seat, the seat post (its bent towards the front to increase angle), hydration and nutrition add-ons and cycle computers. If you want to get real crazy, you can upgrade the wheels, like zipps. But IMHO at that point, if your going to spend a lot of cash on wheels, you may just want to get a dedicated tri bike first. As far as where to shop, depends on where you live. Usually one of you LBS (Local Bike Shop) will have more tri stuff than the others, you'll just have to look around. Where I live, each LBS (3) has a little bit, and one 30 minutes away has more. I've found that I can get most bike equipment and gels from the LBS's & running gear from a run shop. I've been buying my tri clothes online though, cheaper and more options available. |
