Subject: RE: Breathingfor run & bike - Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. Longer inhale and its easier (allegedly) for O2 to get to your brain (ie more brain power) and a faster exhale to get the bad CO2 out. I do a 4 count - 3 counts to inhale and 1 to exhale. During the swim, you breath in through your mouth and exhale through the nose (mostly) to keep water out. Unless you're like me and have a face skirt that blocks your nose (or use a nose clip) then everything is done through the mouth. Almost all (99%) of the exhaling is done while my face is under water.
