Subject: Breathing

I should probably know this, but how should I breathe?  In through the nose, mouth or both!  Running, biking etc.  I am new to this and am moving off the couch, but want to start off on the right feet!  Help!

for run & bike - Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. Longer inhale and its easier (allegedly) for O2 to get to your brain (ie more brain power) and a faster exhale to get the bad CO2 out. I do a 4 count - 3 counts to inhale and 1 to exhale.

During the swim, you breath in through your mouth and exhale through the nose (mostly) to keep water out. Unless you're like me and have a face skirt that blocks your nose (or use a nose clip) then everything is done through the mouth.  Almost all (99%) of the exhaling is done while my face is under water.

Breathe, baby, Breathe.  Breathe, now!

Sorry, I had to do it.  My helpful answer is breath through your mouth and nose to get enough air and learn how to breath using your diaphragm (large muscle located at the base of your lungs)
