Subject: IRD Scantium- more deal hunting help

So, I have been living an absolute nightmare of training this summer.  Been injured for 5 months now.  I have to get off my tri bike, unfortunately.  Luckly, do to the nature of the injury, I can...finally...at least ride a road bike. (knee injury, morphed into a hip injury).

So, I'm breaking out the credit card and thinking of buying a used bike.  Or building one, and using a lot of my tri bike parts (which I will then replace this spring once I'm better).

Anyways, so far I've been offered 3 options.

Trek 2300 full carbon ultegra for 800 obo

2004 corratech race tech 3 full 105 for 600 obo

2003 IRD Scandium Ultegra STI and derailleurs with old RX100 wheels, brakes, and a 105 hollow tech crank for 500 obo

I'm thinking the scandium is a good deal.  What do you think?  I'm going to go look at it tomorrow.  I can use my wheels off my tri bike, and if I have to I can use my tektro brakes too.  I'm pretty sure I can get it for 450, maybe less.  Will probably need tires though, and maybe cables.  I'll know more tomorrow.  If it looks good, and fits, I think I'm going to get it.  Probably swap out the crank with the one on my tri bike, and eventually replace it.

I put an add on craigslist looking for an "entry level" "racing bike" (aka at least 105 comp.) and in 2 days this is what I've got.

My 'cross bike is Scandium Al, sounds like a tin can if you flick it with a finger, but it is rock solid and light.

If the Scandium frame is in good shape get it. I personally stay away from used carbon.
