Subject: winter training
hey everyone i was hoping for a little help. I was planning on working through the winter with a couple plans from BT but I was told that I should switch my winter training to off season mode and focus more on strength and short sprints vs endurance.  Any advice would be appreciated!

"off season" is really for people that have serious build up for "A" races. Winter is a great time to continue to build an endurance base. My job is so busy during the summer that I get more time to train in the colder months. It means more trainer and treadmill time, but if you are just getting started in all this, I would recommend you build for three weeks and then scale back for a "rest" week through the winter. Then, when spring comes around you will be ahead of the game. Just dont overtrain!!!

winter is a great time to work on strength and techinque. Its hard to work on both when your trying to really put in speed and lots and lots of endurance.

I figure you should always work on building and maintaining a strong base. I got to do boston marathon this year because I try to be in shape that I can finish a marathon at the drop of a hat. (which is not hard to maintain). You just do not need to have the same base you would need to finish an IM.
