Subject: RE: ---To be honest I have never heard that kona means lady or woman, but it can be translated to the possesive his/her so that may be where that meaning derived. Wahine (wa he nay ) is woman. I have also heard Kona could be translated to ton. But it really refers to the leeward side of the island. But if I were you I wouldn't sweat how it translates but more what the name reminds you of.
So if you retriever is like other retrievers you could call her Kona Wind for how she blows through the house.
There are a whole bunch of names and to be honest it is hard to figure out a way to use them in a name but here are a few words
Pua - flower
Kai - sea
Lehua - flower of Ohia tree, first plant to grow on new lava
Lani - heavens so Pualani would be heavenly flower
Does Kona have any traits you would like to incude in her name? Lolo means crazy or idiot.
Kalani means chiefly
Ali'i is royalty
Makana - gift
Okole - butt
Nalu - wave
Maka'ala - alert vigilent
Akamai - intelligent
Ku'u 'ipo - sweet heart
Ku'u lei - sweet child
Keiki - kid
Good luck
