Subject: Flat in my first tri!
Hi guys

Just wanted to report in after all the help I was given on this site before doing my first race - Philly Sprint.

Yes, you read correctly I got a flat on my first tri!  I am also embarrassed to say I don't know how to change a flat and I didn't have any of the equipment so I rode 10km on a flat back tire.  I know this is not sensible and good for the bike but I was so determined to finish I just keep pushing! The good news is the wheel seems OK but I will still get it checked by the bike shop.

The nice thing is many people slowed down and commented "poor you" and offered their spare tubes.  That did make me feel better.  I can guarantee that I will know how to fix it for the next tri.  And just a warning to other newbies - you might convince yourself that it will not happen on your first tri but it can happen and it did.

The other two parts went really well.  I'm a swimmer so I came out 2nd/3rd in my start wave of 100 people in the swim and my run was a personal best for 5km despite it being after the horrific bike leg so for the next tri I can only hope everything comes together!

Thanks again everyone and I hope to do another tri soon.

Congratulations on finishing your first tri!  Riding the flat tire might not be the best thing (for you or the bike) but it's certainly an admirable level of dedication.
