Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30am; ate oatmeal. Arrived at check-in at 5:30 to set up transition area. Waited until around 8:45am to have pre-formance drink, then gel around 9:30am...didn't get in the pool til nearly 10:00am.
Event warmup:

Hurry up and wait...it took a long time to get nearly 600 people through the pool. Being a slow swimmer, I was towards the back. But this had it's advantages...it was much warmer on the bike for me than it was for those that went at 7:00am.
Swim
  • 12h 55m
  • 400 meters
  • 3h 13m 45s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was so happy when I got out of the pool!
What would you do differently?:

Get individual lessons during training in addition to DAM group workouts.
Transition 1
  • 03m 29s
Comments:

It was slick on the mats running from the swim to the transition area, so I ran cautiously. I had my transition area set up to be very user-friendly, I'd do it the same way again.
What would you do differently?:

Not worry so much about drying my feet with the towel.
Bike
  • 1h 06m 7s
  • 18.6 miles
  • 16.88 mile/hr
Comments:

I passed about 15 people, so I felt like I was keeping pace well.
What would you do differently?:

Try starting out a little faster. I would have liked to have finished in 1 hour.
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
Run
  • 30h 19m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 9h 46m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a mild cramp I was trying to keep at bay, so didn't psuh myself harder than I knew I could handle. People along the way were very encouraging; the police officers, even other racers...it was nice to get pepped up in the last leg of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Practice on my speed more before the race; more sprints.
Post race
Warm down:

Breath, drink water, grab a hamburger and a coke. About an hour later got back to the transition area where I had my Cytomax and drank that.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cardio levels.

Event comments:

The people involved in putting on the race are great. Thanks for making my first triathlon something I'm glad I did!

I was nervous about the swim (being my first triathlon) but did 15 seconds faster than the time I had submitted for seeding. I passed 2 people and got passed by 2 other people, so it all ended well.

Great job. I don't know about you, but after my first triathlon I was addicted.
The more I get into triathlon the more I realize how many triathletes there are in Dallas. Lots and lots of training partners.

Congrats on finishing your first tri! I had a great time there yesterday--nicely organized. Did you stay for the awards?
