Subject: Recumbent bikes while on vacation
Is there any value in using a recumbent bike while on vacation.  I don't have access to any real biking but the hotel does have a nice recumbent.  It just seems like such a different animal I don't know if it is worth the time and fatigue on the legs.

Thanks

There is always value in getting some aerobic conditioning even on vacation. While a recumbent bike does not duplicate the position of a regular bike, it does use some of the same muscles and it will get your heart pumping. When I travel and there only is a recumbent available, I use it for an hour or so in the morning to mainitain some fitness.

It is better then doing nothing and it will help keep your fitness level so it will be easier to get back into training once you get back home from vacation.

I agree with the other response, but be careful and don't ride the recumbent nearly as many miles as you'd ride your regular bike.  I have done this and injured my knee because apparently my muscles were not ready for that load.

I'd just run and swim instead, though, rather than ride the recumbent.
