First off why are they called clipless?  You clip in.

Which I could not do today.  I got out of the Water 5th in my wave of 75 and hit the road 15th.  I just could not get my left foot clipped in.  I pedaled up a hil and to the left for about 200M with one foot.  Pushed so hard that my seat came loose and was wobbly the whole race.

But I loved racing with clip(less).  Averaged 20.6 mph for 9.3 miles.  Any tricks of the trade to avoid this in the future?  Or is it just practice, practice, practice?

Yes practice makes a huge difference... practice starting and clipping in... then stop and d it all over again!

Its something Ive never been able to do like the pros but I can ride some strokes with one foot clipped in on the odd occassion if I need to... it will get easier and youll get to the point where you dont give it a second thought!!!

Good luck and keep up the practice!

They are called clipless because the old style of pedal, with the cage, was called a toe clip.
Can you loosen the settings on your pedal to make it easier to get in and out? This might make it easier! Otherwise, as Cat said, it a mater of practice.
