Try to find a coach in your area!! I have been struggling with the swim since day one of training and had gotten to the point where I totally dreaded putting in pool time. I have the strength, but I was constantly working against myself because of poor breathing and poor form. As embarrassed as I was to admit just how poorly I swam, I decided it would be more embarrassing to be hauled out of the water!

I asked here for suggestions for coaches in the area, got some good input, contacted someone, and after just two sessions I feel exponentially more confident and just better in general in the water. My breathing is still a toughie, but I'll get there. It has made a huge difference for me and I believe that will continue all the way to my first tri at the end of the month.

Go for it if you can!!!

Hello

I am now 4 weeks post first swimming lesson and feel like somewhat of swimmer.  I took three lesson's and cancelled number 4 (last week) because I did not want to get overloaded with new stuff before I race.

Lesson #1  I went from not being about to swim 25 meters to swimming a full 25 meters & breathing.  This all happened in the course of the 30 minute lesson.  Good progress after each lesson.

This weekend I did my 600 meter race practice in 26 minutes alternating between FS & BS.  Not good by the standards of most people here but for me I went from 46 minutes to 26 minutes.

I think when I race this weekend for the first time I will be able to FS swim longer distances because there will be no turning around. I am sure I will do some BS but I have a stroke count all set up so I know how long to rest doing the BS before a start FS swimming again.

I learn something everytime I swim and I goal is  to swim the entire OWS during my 2nd race in September all FS.

My lesson cost $20 for 30 minutes.  Money well spent I think.

I plan to swim with the coach 2x/week for the next three weeks...until the tri. After that I will probably keep swimming with him for a bit because he has been such an enormous help so far! Would love to get to the point where I pop back just for tuneups.
