Subject: for those of you skeptical about the coexistence of total immersion and speed...
I just started TI techniques maybe 2 months ago, and before Saturday never really pushed myself cardiovascularly in the pool. However, since I was swimming with my youth team, and one of my kids is faster than me, I decided to try and maintain TI form and philosophy but really try to go fast.

The result: sickness! (At least for me). We did 2 x 1000m and then I did another 500m. My first 1000m was a bit under 18 minutes (can't remember exactly), and the 500 was between 8:30 and 8:40!

Those times might not sound fast to some of you, but I can say that in the past my 500 times have RARELY gotten below 9 minutes, LET ALONE that I was using a two kick cycle this time instead of my previous 6.

I know that everyone is different and has different pathways to success, but I just wanted to let all of you out there who are giving TI a shot and wondering if it can make you faster, that it does have the potential to make you faster if you really work hard at the basics!!

dont want to sound like a complete , but part of that may have been due to siwmming agasint someone else and not just TI tech.....

either way you found something that works and makes you faster, which is awesome.

Definitely true, although I have swum with him before and just been helpless to keep up. I don't doubt that competition is always an unmatchable motivating factor, but I do think that the work that I did to learn the TI method is paying off in speed, even if it's not in leaps in bounds. I just want to encourage others who are using TI because I personally think that it's methods are very useful in the long run
