Subject: Went for a proper shoe fit on saturdayWow! So I've been running in My Nike Air Alaris which I chose from my local sports shop based on how they feel when you try them on (like you do with normal shoes ). At the time they were the comfiest pair I could find and offered good cushioning. A while ago they started to squeek when you walk so thought I'd go for a proper fit at the local running shop. The video analysis showed my Nike's were giving me no support and had collapsed on the inside of the heel causing it to roll and put an angle on the achiles. I've now got some Saucony Hurricane 11's which feel much better, went for a test run last night just aiming to go 2.5K to see how they feel. They felt a little odd to start with but much comfier at the end of the 2.5K so I decided to do another loop and bang out a 5K. It wasn't a tempo run, just a comfy jog. I finished the 5K feeling brilliant but decided I should stop rather than keep going, need to make sure I don't do too much too soon and risk injury while my body adjusts to the increased support. Everyone talks about bike fit, but I've never seen anyone talk about shoe fit? For me it's been a bit of a revelation and should hopefully help me stay injury free through training. Just thought I'd share my thoughts. Rich |
