Once I got used to the water it was ok. Minaly only had problems when I thought about how cold it was.
What would you do differently?:

Get a full length wetsuit
Transition 1
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Got into shoes in transition. Took two goes to get left shoe on as a bit dizzy from the swim
What would you do differently?:

Shoes on bike, but need to practice it. Not worry about shoe when putting it on.

Felt good, really enjoyed the bike (was 17th in my wave and NO-ONE passed me)
What would you do differently?:

go harder
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

managed to ping shoe out of pedal when my foot came out of the shoe, so I ended up riding along with a shoe in one hand and got a cramp in my calf trying to keep my foot near the pedal without the shoe to keep it in place
What would you do differently?:

not ping my shoe out of the pedal - just need more practice

Can't complain as it was my 5km PB, but it really needs work
What would you do differently?:

Run faster
Post race
Event comments:

The run course got invaded by spectators who got in the way, other than that a really nice race to do

Fantastic race, you must be pleased. Well done.
I can't believe you didn't have a full wetsuit on though - it was freezing in that water!

amazing bike time too considering you had your shoe in your hand!!! Overcoming adveristy - isn't that what its all about??

Thanks - only just noticed the reply to the report (not online that much these days).

I was really pleased with my time for about an hour, but then I was already on to the next target and analysing where I could improve (stroke not good enough in the water, why wasn't I pushing 40 on the bike instead of cruising at 37, cadence in the run wasn't high enough...)

That water was astonishingly cold - I didn't get a chance to train in open water before the race, so my first open water was 5 minutes before the start thinking "Oh my god, I can't even breathe in this, let alone swim"  There is a positive though - everyone else said their feet hurt - my legs were numb from the knees down so no problems with my feet!!

Just saw your race report - well done (and you remembered your chip at Windsor!!)  Good luck for London
