![]() Swim
Comments: Long and Cold. Did well with keeping freestyle. I would say about 90% free style 10% Back Stroke. During last 100-200 yards got severe calf cramps. Had to swim in seated (chair) position. Threw up about 4 times... but didn't let that phase me. I was the last person out of the water so I had two personal lifegaurds for a while. What would you do differently?: During Backstroke I Lost my heading every time. When I could I tried to do alternate breathing that felt like it helped immensely with my speed. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: 19/Overall Tried shoes on bike and one shoe got caught on the ground and poped out of the cleat. That caused me to break my rythm and I ended up stubbing bare toe on the pavement. That toe caused me to do something weird with my left leg during the ride tweaking my knee. What would you do differently?: I have to practice mounting a bike with shoes attached. I need to consider socks for the bike (would have prevented bloody toe). ![]() Bike
Comments: I did well on the Bike. It definately helped that I was out late enough that I caught the elite riders on their second lap. What would you do differently?: I can't think of much I would do differently. The first three laps had very consistent splits. The last lap I fell off because I was riding alone for most of it and developed some pretty intense left knee pain (I think from weird foot positioning due to the cut up left big toe). ![]() Transition 2
Comments: 143/Overall ![]() Run
Comments: Run was solid. The bloddy toe did bother me but I was able to block it most of the time. It was awesome to pass that other clydes guy at the end of my run. Very big boost for a day when I was getting used to being last. What would you do differently?: I might have worn some bigger socks to help pad bloddy toe. I definately should have trained on trail running. I had to walk most of that section of the race because I just didn't have the mental energy to think about where to put my feet; and didn't want to risk a fall and twist an ankle on the rocky sections and stream crossings. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Shoving pizza in my face while walking around, trying to remember my name. What limited your ability to perform faster: Definately the Swim limited my ability to stay with my pack. The Trail run slowed me down a bit too. Event comments: I think I'll enjoy Genesis Races. I have to ask them about the finishing medal. They didn't have any that was very weird... Maybe they didn't b/c they are primarily an ADV. Racing Company? Odd HRM gave me a finishing time of 8:39 :) Last updated: 2005-02-18 12:00 AM
