Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 26/37
Pre-race routine:

ate a powerbar and 20 ounces gatorade/16 ounces water. had an Accel gel 15 mins before swim
Event warmup:

swam and ran with stretching
Swim
  • 16m 19s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim felt slow but actually cut 3 mins off of last years time. Still was not impressed with my swim felt like I was fighting it. Had to backstroke two different times
What would you do differently?:

More practice in open water
Transition 1
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

can't jump on bike. Imagine a Clydesdale jumping on a bike, ain't gonna happen. :) Oh yeah Xlab Saddlewing is in the way :) :)
What would you do differently?:

the socks piece gets me. Hard to get socks on with feet still wet. need to practice this more
Bike
  • 48m 13s
  • 16.7 miles
  • 20.78 mile/hr
Comments:

First mile was rough don't know why, need to drink more since I sweat a lot, it caught up with me at the end of the run. Slowly getting nutrition down, still experimenting. Last 5 miles I was motoring finally got in a smooth rhythm. Enter T2 just left shoes on pedals and slipped feet out made for an easy run to rack, I will do that again.
What would you do differently?:

need to focus on getting into a good rhythm sooner
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

need to get speed laces so I don't have to mess with tying shoes
What would you do differently?:

get my helmet and crap off sooner.
Run
  • 31m 4s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

awful, awful awful, and did I mention awful? Felt sluggish the entire run and begin to cramp about 150 yards from finish. Can't put my finger on what it was except that maybe not enough fluids before I hit the run. Also felt like I couldn't get my legs under me after the bike
What would you do differently?:

more bricks during training I think would help.
Post race
Warm down:

walked and stretched. Lots of fluids and bananas

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not sure fluids, nutrition?

Event comments:

well run. Joe is a bit militant but well organized and on time! Overall I am indifferent as I cut 23 mins off of my time from last year (which I attribute to better training this year and riding a Cervelo rather than my old Rock Hopper mountain bike) but I expected better from myself especially on the run. Actually, trained very little for the two weeks following and I am paying for it now. Need to get ready for River Cities tri in Louisiana in early August (I need to be below 1:35) and my first olympic one in Oct. :)
