Subject: Good News for Colorado Cyclists...DENVER - Colorado cyclists will soon have more room on the roads due to a new law.
One of several new laws taking effect July 1 will allow cyclists to ride next to each other as long as they don't block traffic. They are currently required to ride single file.
Up to now if an accident occurred on the street the rider was automatically at fault. Starting Friday, drivers can also be held accountable for an accident.
In addition to the side-by-side, cyclists on bike paths and sidewalks will be allowed to ride across the street rather than walk their bikes. The law also recognizes cycling turn signals using a bent left arm or extended right arm.
Colorado's police officers will have additional work thanks to the new law. They will be required to make reports on all bike accidents, even if no driver was involved.
