Sunny
Total Time = 1h 29m 43s
Overall Rank = 562/3450
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 90/415
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30, showered, packed up (we were not going back to the hotel) and went down for breakfast. Breakfast was english muffin with peanut butter, hard boiled egg white and peach yogurt. When we got to the race and after setting up transitions, had a chocolate chip granola bar and water.
Event warmup:

Warm up was just stretches. I was in wave 22, so I had plenty of time to stretch and cheer the waves ahead of me.
Swim
  • 11m 54s
  • 800 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great swim, I was in the very front and was able to get a fast start. Got slowed up a bit catching the wave ahead of me, I got kicked in the chest by a slow breaststroker, but besides that a good swim. Sighting was difficult because we swam directly into the sun. I went hard with my arms, and did not kick much. Figured I needed my legs later, but not my arms, I felt really good coming out of the water and running into T1.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, maybe navigate better around the wave ahead. (not a bad problem to have really.)
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

Transition was huge, so considering how big it was, I felt I did very well. Ran to the bike, got helmet and shoes on fast, and ran out. Had no trouble finding my bike, I did well marking the spot from the run in. Didn't put on my bike gloves, figured I didn't need them for 12 miles, saved a minute.
What would you do differently?:

My shoes tie, that was probably my only slow part.
Bike
  • 39m 39s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 18.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt really good on the bike, looking back I might have been able to go harder, but I kept remembering I had a run to do still. Had some trouble shifting gears, they kept jumping around. Passed a lot of people, but I got passed by some real speed demons.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe pushed a bit harder, but overall I was happy with my ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Good T2. Got in and out fast, found my rack position and got the bike racked quick. Had no bikes around me yet, which was great. Changed my shoes and off I went!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 33m 37s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Made a mistake and had a gel as I started to run. Cramped right at mile 1 because I did not drink any water with it. Got to the water table about mile 1.5 and had water, then I felt much better. Had to walk for :45 at mile 1 because of the cramp, but then kept going and finished the race pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Been better prepared, and had some water coming out of T2 (Skipped the water table....bad idea).
Post race
Warm down:

Warm down consisted of drinking some water, pouring water over myself, stretching and sitting in the shade. It was really hot out there.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat on the run, lack of running training.

Event comments:

Overall the race was okay. Could have used another water station on the run because it was so hot, but overall a good course. Post race festivities were pretty scarce, each triathlete got to pick ONE peice of fruit (apple or banana) off the table, and that is it. No water etc. offered outside of finish chute. Where was the food?

I'm still in awe over your swim time. 84 out of 3450. Now, my math might be wrong ... but that's better than top 2.5%, right??? Jaw-droppingly fast. Too bad I started 18 minutes before you... a little less time between waves and you could have towed me across.

Really - great race! Awesome swim, great bike (yea, yea... more hills than I remembered....), and you really gutted it out on the run.

Next stop: Harbor Lights Tri!

Great job overall and your running seems to be improving too! You finished in the top 1/4 of your age group, nice job. Looking forward to Harbor Lights.
