Total Time = 2h 28m
Overall Rank = 341/1877
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 77/272
Pre-race routine:

Woke up 4:00 a.m. shower, coffee, baegel, bananna, 2 aspirin, multivitamins, anti ox, and allergy med. Sounds like a lot when you write it all down, but took it all 3 hours before race start, and felt great.
Event warmup:

short run, and found a bathroom with no line and running water. Walked to swim start. Used bathroom again, and stretched out for about 15 minutes. sipped on some water and a little gatorade. Still felt good, and relaxed.
Swim
  • 19m 47s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

most of the wave started to the far outside. Current was stronger out there, but it looked pretty crowded so I opted to start more towards the center to avoid the crowd.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure if the outside lanes were faster or not....who knows? I definitely hope I don't take another drink of the water for a while.
Transition 1
  • 04m 4s
Comments:

found my spot very easily because of tape mark at the end I put at the end of the row. I felt like I was pretty smooth and relaxed throughout.
What would you do differently?:

nothing really
Bike
  • 1h 13m 52s
  • 25 miles
  • 20.31 mile/hr
Comments:

felt good today. Cadence was good, and I raced at a comfortable pace.
What would you do differently?:

I miss judged the turnaround point at 52 street and let up a little too early. That was a big mistake in my opinion. I thought I was well ahead time wise of my actual place on the course. Trying to save something for the run, still didn't seem to help the run any.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

First time coming out of the shoes during the bike in a race. That is definitely the way to go.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 49m 37s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m  min/mile
Comments:

Slow first couple of miles (8:42) I felt like my heart rate didn't go up too high, but the legs just weren't cooperating. Ran a little too conservatively I think, but didn't want to blow up either. The last two miles were high 7 minute mile pace, and I felt like I finally had something to offer for the race. I finished strong which was a goal.
What would you do differently?:

have got to get faster with some better training
Post race
Warm down:

not much, a little stretching , and some gatorade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sore back on the bike, and most definitely need to do more bricks and better run workouts.

Event comments:

Beautiful day, had a lot of fun, and had some great friends at the race to share it with. Hope to do it again. First Oly distance and loved it.

Way to go! Great race. Fantastic age place..you and I are in the same age category. I was there as a spectator, had a couple of friends racing. Was a great race. I am thinking that I would like to do this one as my first oly next year. Big congrats (belated). Do you have anything else on tap for this year?
