Comments: Open water swimming is HARD. I know this is a great big DUH to all of you, but I thought I would be fine with lots of past open water experience. I was wrong. What would you do differently?: I would wear my ChampionChip so that I know what my time was :-). I will also have open water practice swims before my next tri. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I used Pam when I put my wetsuit on and it seemed to pull off faster than when I'd practice before. We couldn't ride our bikes for a ways out of transition so I had to put my shoes on to walk with the bike, Rather than hop in them, but I didn't mind. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I am not competing for time and my transition went smoothly. i was comfortable with it. ![]() Bike
Comments: The bike is my best event, by far, but this ride was brutal. The sprint was only 6 miles, but the first three were uphill from 6000feet to 7000feet. The second 3 miles were a very fast descent, definitely technical in nature. What would you do differently?: More climbing practice. I live and train at sea level so a long climb at altitude about did me in. ![]() Transition 2
What would you do differently?: i would have my running shoes more prepared. It took me a while to get out of the Shimano and into the Mizuno. ![]() Run
Comments: Running sucks without an iPod. What would you do differently?: Not let the pear shaped 48 year old pass me. It is humbling to see someone 14 years older and looking not as fit prove to me that I am NOT nearly as fit as I think I am. ![]() Post race
Warm down: A little stretching and a lot of sitting. Last updated: 2005-07-06 12:00 AM

I was on a steady routine of 3x week ride, 2x week run, 1-2x week swim until the last two weeks. Then work and family got out of control and my training completely fell off. Also, I didn't mind my nutrition at all, I just hoped that exercising would be enough to complete the thing.
My brakes, which had worked the night before, didn't work. So, for my event warm up, we were frantically trying to fix my front brake. I knew I had a 3 mile fast descent and I was terrified I'd not get my brakes handled. But we did with very few minutes to spare. Long story short, I had ZERO warm up time.
