Total Time = 3h 02m 21s
Overall Rank = 263/342
Age Group = 40-44 M
Age Group Rank = 28/32
Pre-race routine:

Same as always, PBJ and coffee. Camped at Cedar Hill state park so getting up and driving over to the venue was no problem (10 minute drive).
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 35m 51s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 23s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt like crap the first 250 meters or so. Really thought I was a 'rock' and wasn't going to make it to the first bouy. Once I made it I settled down, then I felt pretty strong the rest of the way. You could set your watch by my swim times, 35 this time and 35 the last oly.
What would you do differently?:

Could somebody tell me the secret! I can swim all day, just can't swim fast. What up?
Transition 1
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

Just got some new bike shoes (prior to this, I had clips and running shoes) so this was a little new to me.
What would you do differently?:

Practice some more with putting on the bike shoes.
Bike
  • 1h 22m 52s
  • 25.6 miles
  • 18.54 mile/hr
Comments:

Great bike course, good and flat. Went two loops over some scenic areas and bridges. I felt really strong into the winds (training in the Oklahoma winds really helps). My training over the last few weeks has focused on biking, so my time improved by 10 minutes! Whoo Hoo!
Transition 2
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Again with the bike shoes, damned straps!
Run
  • 58m 28s
  • 6.24 miles
  • 09m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Lost some time here. My last 10k was 53 minutes. Only thing I can say is that it was hot and the damned dam looked like it went on forever. So that deflated me a little.
What would you do differently?:

Start out a little slower and pace better towards the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and grabbed cookies and bananas, good stuff!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Should of went slower in the first 2 miles of the run, and then picked it up. Felt a littlt exhausted by mile 3.

Event comments:

MAny thanks to the volunteers. They had plenty people on hand and didn't run out of anything, great job.

Nice race! Isn't nice when you see improvement in something like the bike. When I did my first triathlon in April I averaged 16.4 mph and yesterday I averaged just over 20 mph. Was it just me or did it feel a little like swimming on the high seas out there with all the wind?
