this looks interesting:

http://www.g4tv.com/specials/episodes/4630/Violence_In_Games.html

"Controversial titles such as the adult/horror release Night Trap and
the gory fighting game Mortal Kombat prompted Senators Joe Lieberman
and Herb Kohl to call for Senate Hearings in 1993. Soon after, the
Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) was formed. G4 traces the
evolution of violence in videogames and examines all sides of this
hot-button issue in this one-hour special. Interviews include:
Oddworld Inhabitants President Lorne Lanning and ESA President Doug
Lowenstein; California Assemblyman Leland Yee; U.S. Congressman Darryl
Issa; former Columbine High School Student, Craig Scott and many
more."

it's OK that a) you are a geek, or b) your children are!

as a former semi-professional gamer and (seriously) having been ranked world class in various ladders and leagues across the net, i am highly informed on the topic. you may think i have some deep insight or details into psyche of gamers or the developers that churn out these titles, but the answer is common sense that everyone pussyfoots around:

1) mommy and daddy don't go buy porn for little timmy, so why would they buy them "Super Flatulent Space Vaginas That Eat Children Vol IV"? I mean there is an ESRB rating system and its f*&$ing obvious how to use it. Censorship is evil, parents need to step up.

2) senators are just as informed of this situation as they are the enviroment, gun control, viral epidemics (AVIAN FLU OMGWTF!!!111oneone) and the communication problems that exist between various goverment agencies. which is to say none. anyone that believes in what our founding fathers did recognize that censorship is inherently evil, and anyone with a lick of sense understands that senators are CAREER POLITICIANS. they are skilled at winning an office, not fulfilling a duty.
