Hi all!
I'm a 56/m from eastern ND. I have been running for a couple years, and am now interested in sprint triathlons. I did the biking portion of a tri relay last summer and it was fun! What really appeals to me about triathlon is that it is not all running. Running seems to be hard on me if I train hard for months at a time. I suffered a left tibia injury this year 2 weeks before I was set to run the half at the Fargo marathon. During my 8 weeks off of running, I biked like crazy! Anyway, I am looking forward to this site. Swimming is MY BIG CHALLENGE!!! I am starting to learn technique for the first time in my life!! Looking forward to any help. I can swim for about 50 yards right now...hard to think I can go 500 yards, but I am being positive. Thanks everyone!!!

Welcome! I'm pretty new to triathlons as well and I 2 months ago I was exactly where you are now with your swimming.
I've found the keys to swimming distance are technique and relaxation. My breakthrough was when I was finally relaxed enough to breathe normally.
Watch videos, do drills for technique, and RELAX! You'll be increasing your distance before you know it!

I will take your advice! Thanks for the encouragement. My son is a very good swimmer, but he sort of thinks it comes naturally All he says is, "Dad, relax, breath, relax!" lol I will start looking at videos. I found a good site, SwimSmooth, that seems to have some pretty good videos on technique. Thanks again!
