Total Time = 1h 46m 33s
Overall Rank = 427/733
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 19/57
Pre-race routine:

I got to Baraboo around 6:30am for a 8am start. I registered and found out that I was in wave 12 which started at about 8:25am. This gave me a little more time to get settled. I got my bib number and chip, got my t-shirt, and got my body markings. I retrieved my bike and gear back from the car and went to the transition area. found a spot in the aisle for people in wave 12 and parked my bike near a small tree as a landmark. proceeded to walk around, drink some water and go to the bathroom until the 7:45am meeting. I walked over to the swim area and noted that there was quite a breeze making the water extremely wavy and choppy.
Event warmup:

I didn't do much warming up... just a short jog and some stretching. I was way way too nervous about the swim to do much else.

Swim
  • 11m 18s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim was horrible. I had been swimming in the pool and had done one open water swim. but this was so different. the water was extremely choppy and I just couldn't get my breath. I ended up doing the backstroke the entire time. I guess that the only good thing to say about it was that I managed to finish and I swam the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

more open water swims and get much much stronger
Transition 1
  • 03m 22s
Comments:

The transition went relatively well. considering it was the first time in a wet wetsuit.
Bike
  • 1h 02m 13s
  • 15 miles
  • 14.47 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt very strong on the bike ride. I got stung by a bee soon into the race, but my allergic reaction was minimal so I kept on racing and managed to ignore the pain for the most part.
What would you do differently?:

I can't wait to get a good bike. My bike is very, very heavy and I think I could have maybe even won my age group with a lighter bike.
Transition 2
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

this transition went pretty well. I think that with more practice I'll do better and better.
What would you do differently?:

more practice
Run
  • 27m 27s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 29s  min/km
Comments:

I could have pushed myself harder on the run I think. I wasn't overly tired at the end of the race.
What would you do differently?:

run harder and faster.
Post race
Warm down:

I drank some water and walked around a bit. they had sandwiches and pasta, but I wasn't really hungry. I just felt like crying out of relief.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my swim performance... I sucked. my run performance... I didn't go as hard as I could have.

Event comments:

It was the best triathlon that I have ever done... it was my first!

Way to go on finishing your first tri! And what a tri to pick! The swim was killer - I think I drank half the lake. Great job on the bike and run! Congratulations you are officially a triathlete!
