Comments:

We gathered at the Atha Road Elementary School parking lot in the dark. In attendance from C4 were: Scott, Mitch, Eddie, Harvey, Shannon and Robert. (if I missed anyone, my apologies) . Paul was active running the event as was his nephew Brandon. Steve A. put in an appearance to deliver C4 kits and make sure we were all in proper uniform.
At the start temps were in the high 40’s and the main topic of discussion was how much clothing to wear. We started promptly at 8:00. The weather warmed quickly as did our core temps and people were soon shedding extra clothing. Temps remained perfect for riding throughout the day. Many of the roads were familiar from our rides out that way this summer.
The group stayed together through the first SAG stop and then Mitch, Scott and I found ourselves up with the main group while Eddie, Harvey and Robert dropped back. I remember thinking they were making the right choice as the group I was with was averaging 21mph through mile 40 and there was no way I was going to maintain that pace. After SAG 2 at mile 43 we let the main group go and the three of us formed a merry little peleton of 3 and continued on at a slower but respectable pace.
After Fairplay, we went slightly off course and but were able to correct and vector back onto the published route. The course variation did mean I was not going to get any more of Paul’s wife’s cookies at the next SAG stop and I was not really happy about that. My garmin had our total mileage at 102.5 with an average moving pace of 18.9. You can see my garmin stats here: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/4211379

What would you do differently?:

Body Glide or Butt Butter pre ride. Got a little chaffing.

Warm down:

food and drink at the ride end

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was a stellar pace for my first ever ride of this distance
