Subject: Where to buy roller skies?

Looking for a place online to buy a roller ski package. I looked at Gear West but looking to see if there were any other places.

Thanks

Several to choose from in the MN/WI area, where you can shop online

New Moon Ski shop in Hayward, WI home of the American Birkebeiner.  They only carry V2 brand of rollerskis I think.

Riverbrook bike and ski shop in Seeley, WI (near the "OO" halfway point of the Birkie). They only carry Jenex brand I think.

Eagle River Nordic in Wisconsin sells 'em

Finn Sisu in Twin Cities  carries Marwe rollerskis, which is the brand I use...I love the Marwe 610 skate rollerski.  If you purchase this model see if you can order the softer wheels which gives a more on-snow speed to them, versus the harder wheels which are faster and gives you less of a workout.

Reliable Racing out of NY sells rollerskis also.

You should also check out CAT skis (Classical All Terrain) for classical training which can be used off-road.  I finally bought some this year and can't wait until after IM WI to try them out this fall.  Good luck!

Thanks,

Do you have to buy special polls for rollerskis or can you use the same ones you use for winter skiing?

You can use the same poles, BUT be sure to purchase some carbide-tipped ferrules that you can replace your snow baskets with.  Snow baskets are put on with heat sensitive glue so you can remove them by heating with hot water or a heat gun held far enough away from the pole so you don't damage it.   Most of the online places I listed will sell the carbide-tipped ferrules as well as small containers of the glue (I know Finn Sisu sells the glue - might have to call).  While you're at it you might as well also purchase a diamond sharpener to sharpen the carbide tips that get dull after a lot of use on the roads.  My races poles are too expensive ($250) to use for rollerskiing so I have a cheaper pair that I have dedicated to rollerskiing.  Also, if you're doing both disciplines (skating and classical) you'll need 2 different lengths...just as for on snow.
