I've been training for about 4 weeks for my first tri and got to the point (with lots of encouragement from BT posts) that I felt comfortable enough to register - but now the race is full...!!! Aaarrgghh. This has really thrown me for a loop. Dover-Sherborn would have been a great first tri for me - 10 miles from my house, short lake swim etc, etc, What to do? I think I'll register for the tri in Hull even tho its an ocean swim and beach run (hard, packed sand - is this going to be anything like running on asphalt?).

Is the race likely to become unfull, do competitors ever drop out and sell their spot, will there be spots available on race day - or should I just go ahead and register for Hull?

Any advice and encouragement welcome...

Jon.

There are still quite a few sprints in MA..if you don't want an ocean swim keep looking.

No folks registered can't sell their spot. Sometimes they will have a wait list and let people in if others let them no they aren't going to do it.

Look on the MA training board and you'll see some other tris folks are doing..plus you can use tri-find.com or search for races here on BT.

I feel your pain.  The same thing happened to me for the Hyannis Sprint II race.  I wasnt sure I was going to be ready for it so I waited and I missed that cutoff by 3 days.  They did say I could be on a waitlist (first come first served) but I didnt want to take the chance and not race this weekend so I signed up for the Weare, NH tri.  The swims a little longer but I really wanted to race and all my other weekends in Sept are booked so this was the only chance I would get.

The lesson I learned, I should sign up at least 3 weeks in advance to have a good shot of not being excluded.
