Subject: Sprint Training
I was just wondering if I could get some feedback on the sprint training plan provided here on BT.  I was looking at the 22 week training plan.  I have already completed one sprint a week ago and want to train for another tri in either march or april.  Is it good to do this program and build an really good base and go slowly?  Should I try the plan for a month and then start tweaking areas that i think need to be changed (like if I feel like I am going to slow/not far enough in the bike ride.)  I found another program on trinewbies but it is only 11 weeks of training.  Should i just focus right now on working on each of the tri's things and then 11 weeks before the tri do that type of program?  I am just so confused and I don't have a lot of people around where I live that do tri's so i hope i can get some feedback from these boards.  Thanks a bunch! :-D

The people who run the site say that all plans can and should be changed to enfore your needs, they are just a guide to training, nothing that should not be changed.

I used the trinewbies plan for my first sprint last Spring/summer and liked it just fine.  Since you have teh time before your next tri, I'd suggest finding a plan to work on your weak area(s) and them switching to a sprint tri focussed plan when the week timing is right... You may find you need a combination of sprint for newbies mixed with intermediate...

In line with the above poster. Maybe do a winterizer/base builder for a month or two, and then 15-20 weeks before do a more sprint/triathlon (focusing on your weakest point..say the "bike focused" plan?) which will peak you right before your next sprint.

The other question is...will your sprint in March/April be your A-race? a B-Race? If its a B or C race..then just train right through it and set your training for your A-race later in the spring/summer.

The key is to not peak too early. Use your time now to build your bike base/build muscle strength/work on form and different things, etc.
